‘Ictis’ is a scale model of St Nicholas (Drakes) Island in Plymouth Sound, with integrated re-imaginged underground/underwater tunnels/warrens coated in tin leaf, attached to ceramic stands with seagrass twine. The work depicts narratives surrounding the island based on unreliable evidence from various time periods. It references tin trading, rabbit warrens and the remains of defences and tunnel networks on the island.

Shown in dialogue with the sculpture are specimens of cassiterite from The Box Plymouth & historical texts by John Leland,  Richard Polwhele and Diodorus Siculus. ‘Ictis’ was commissioned for ‘Ocean’, an exhibition at the Arts Institute University of Plymouth, curated by Mary Costello & Simon Poulter including new work by Mat Chivers and Stefanie Posavec.
